well I did try my best to get that coupler out. you should see what my hadns look like right now. I pretty much emptied a can of pb blaster on that coupler.

I'm sure if the coupler wasn't stripped and was installed properly it'd come right off but mind is stuck in there.

I even tried cutting it off with a pipe cutter (didn't work) an da hacksaw which didn't seem to cut through it very fast. I'd have to spend 20 hours sawing through it.

Are you having someone help you with this? Often times the coupler is bound up a bit from the trans sagging, if you can get someone to help with this by propping up the trans a bit while you are trying to slide it off it helps. Hope that makes sense.

makes sense. I tried lifting the trans bit by bit myself (floor jack). then getting under the car and trying to pry the coupler off but it still didn't budge.

maybe I'll try it once more.

My thinking is the grinding-off of the splines has created a ridge of metal that will prevent the coupler from moving backwards. I think it needs to be cut, but that's what cutting tools are for. IMO cutting it just about where the bad splines are will be easiest and as long as it's close to the end of the TT the trans will still come off. Then the stumps can be removed from the trans and TT and if there is any scuffing of the TT spines you can easily clean them up with a file while the trans is off.

A sawzall, a hacksaw, a Dremel with a snake... if you need another hole in the TT bellhousing to access the coupler, drill one. Do what you gotta do. It'd be really easy to make a clean cut with someone spinning a wheel with a big ratchet and someone else underneath with a cutting tool.

I removed my trans bolts and slid the hole trans back with teh coupler still n and it started sliding off the torque tube pretty easily as it's stripped and the tq tube looks fine to me.

the coupler is stuck on the trans side and I can't get it freakin off. I'm so close to fixing this but that damn coupler is not budging.

I now have the trans slid back a bit and supported by my jack.

I'm thinking of trying to cut through that coupler in the centre with a hacksaw but it'll take forever.

or buy power tools and cut a section off the spare tire area so the trans can be slid back more.

I seriously need to get this car fixed right away.

I missed my fraekin bus today and couldn't make it to class so now i'm pissed.

You are so close now - don't give up! At least you are on the right track... once I spent 3/4 weekends up to my nose in it trying to replace and gap the flywheel reference sensors accurately (a**hole of an auto electrician diagnosed the issue) and it wouldn't run, and wouldn't run - in the end it was missing a bolt on the distributor rotor which the shop had forgot to replace when sorting out a minor oil leak... and it had rotated a fraction, so on first glance, all seemed fine.

You know what the problem is, you're close to fixing it - don't get mad. Get the job done!

I would also vote for the judicious application of a new power tool to get the job done

Be glad you don't have to F about with changing the torque tube.

ah crap. trans isn't out yet. the guide tube needs to come out and i'm not sure if I'll be able to drop it. a couple cm of the trans driveshaft are still inside the coupler.......

also I was wrong tq tube looks stripped...... teeth are rounded off compared to the trans side/ groves don't go down as deep.

Way to go Yummybud! I banged a screwdriver into the joint where the bolt clamps it and spred it apart like a wedge. Mine made a snap noise and then came off. Keep at it your so close. As for the lawyers, most are on speeddial around here. Dr's work till 6pm. And the casino's here are laying off 700 this week. So maybe they might behere next.
