Default How do I get lower profile tires?

Whenever I do buy new tires, i'd like to get lower profile tires. I think mine have to much buldge right now. If I just ask the the tire store that i'd like skinnier tires, would they know what to do, or would I have to have some numbers or something? This is the best picture I could find of the tires.

Hmm i think they look perfect, but to each his own.

If you look at your current tires, they will have a series of numbers eg: 215/60-16, 215 is tire the width;60 is the tire profile; and 16 is the wheel size. The lower the profile number, the lower the profile.

tire numbers:

215/60-16

215 is the tire tread width in millimeters
60 is the profile. it means the sidewall of the tire is 60% of the tread width of 215mm.

if you want lower profile tires, you still have to make sure you maintain you total diameter for your speedo to be correct. one of the best tools on the internet is the miata garage's tire calculator at http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

I think you are just asking about skinnier tires, not lower profile(shorter sidewall). So you want to decrease the first measurement number. For example if you have a 225 you could go to a 215 or 205 and it would get rid of the "bulge" or "ballooning" that you don't like. A 205 or a 195 tire works nicely on a 7" wide wheel which is what I think you have.

If you want to get rid of the bulge, you want skinnier tires.

A 205/45 will look good on your car. Are your wheels 16"?

What is the current tire size?

215/60-16 Tire Diameter 26.16" (Size you posted, Wrong for a 924/944, too big)
225/50-16 Tire Diameter 24.85" (928 Rims on 924S/944)
215/60-15 Tire Diameter 25.16" (Stock 944 Size)
245/45-16 Tire Diameter 24.68" (Optional Tire Size on 928 Rims, but a squeeze)
205/55-16 Tire Diameter 24.88" (924s/924T 6x16" Rims)

Remember the more meat you put on the ground is more drag which can lead to affect gas mileage. But you may gain better traction.

If you want to go lower on the sidewall this will be your sizes:
205/50-16 Tire Diameter 24.07"
215/45-16 Tire Diameter 23.61"
215/50-16 Tire Diameter 24.46"

Haha why do you have a 60 series on the back and a 50 on the front? Definitely get some new tires!

right before winter, my rear tires got worn out bad (bad bearings that I didn't know/couldn't tell); so I had to get 2 new tires - and a friend of mine had a set on his Impala, he bought 20's for it and had snow's for winter - so I got a set of these for free; come spring, I enjoyed the tire DURING WINTER so much that I went ahead and bought 2 more tires of the same size; did not like that this summer at all

but yeah

roman, go on ebay and put in a bid for the stone guards, get a hair dryer and some plastic putty knives. get that fugly black guard off, some goo gone or some paint prep to get rid of the glue and put some new gravel guards on. makes the car look 100% better. may also want to spray the gravel paint with a rattle can. cleans it up nicely.

for $60 you can make the car look a lot sharper.

then get that license plate screwed on straight.

gotta take pride in your ride man! that little stuff drives me nuts.
