Was it with the Turbo-S? Mid-'88+ maybe? Is there a way to tell by just looking at the caster-block to tell if it's the new or older one?

The new mounts were standard on the 968, and are easy to differentiate from the older style by their much higher percentage of metal vs. rubber and the welded, heavy duty construction.

That's what I had thought, but my '92 968 has an old style castor block on the left and new style on the right. I have a ps fluid leak, so I am assumming the PO replaced the right side at some point.

Maybe a case of Porsche clearing out the older parts bins during a model change-over?

Sounds like a factory screw-up. The PET lists the new style for all 968 from '92 on, but the old style is listed for the '91 S2, although there is a "system remark" attached that says to use the updated part number.
