Post Where is the DME?

Alright, I've got a lot to learn about this car.

I went out with my trusty Haynes manual trying to find the DME so I could find out what kind of chips the car has in it, but I couldn't find the thing.

Is it in a different location on the 951 than it is on the 944?

I looked under the instrument panel on the left hand side of the steering column (and everywhere else I could pull apart easily) and I couldn't find anything that looks like or straps in like the DME they picture in the manual. The closest thing I could find was a aluminum little box right above the hood release, but I don't know if thats the DME or an airbag sensor.

On later ('87 on ?) models it is under the carpet on the passengers side footwell. You can pull a flap of carpet back and unbolt a plywood plate to find it.

Earlier cars it was on the drivers side somewhere.

That aluminum box is your cruise control computer. Remember where it is, you'll be doing some soldering on it sooner or later.

I think it is there on all 85 1/2 cars and up.
