HELP- Major fuel leak - daily driver
I was driving my 924s last night and noticed a STRONG odor of gasoline- Turns out I am dropping fuel near the rear axle (Substantial steady dripping. This only occurs when the engine is running, Not when it is sitting.

I know how that feels. I had the same problem with my '79,924.My leak was comming from the hose attatchment going to the fuelpump.And if thats the case just go get a new hose and attatchment.

Turns out it IS a bad fuel line connecting at the fuel filter (Outlet side). is there a "best method" for not getting completely covered by fuel?? <img src="confused.gif" border="0">

You're gonna haveto depressurize your fuel lines so you don't leak fuel all over the place.But as far as doing that on your car I have no idea how to.Just look in a repair manual,It'll tell you how.

I'm not sure what fuse # is in a 924 however find the fuse for your fuel pump, disconnect it then start the car. The car will run for a few seconds then die, at this point your system is depressurized. I know that my car only has one fuel pump in the rear, I think some cars have a low pressure pump in the rear and a high pressure in the engine bay. Make sure you disconnect your battery, I took mine out of the car when I did my fuel pump.

Turns out it WAS a bad fuel line- burst at the connection above the trans- A note for all- Use a 1/4" soctet and a thumb-turn socket wrench- takes about 1 hour if the hose clamp is bad, oh and you had better be able to see with your fingers- No way to see what you are doing when loosening / tightening the clamp. Next week I change the Fuel filter- looks easy compared to what I just went thru.
BTW-, Put an old rag OVER the top of the trans- Took an Hour to retract my shortie screwdriver from INSIDE the trans case....
As far as depressurizing the fuel line, you are correct- I didn't have this problem due to the burst- too bad I didn't have my replacement fuel filter today.
Too bad it's too early for a beer...
