Post what should I actually pay for this 944?

a couple days ago i was shocked to see a 944 for sale in my area. i had never seen this car in town...ever!

it is a white '84 coupe.

-143K miles
-new Pirelli tires
-owned since '87 (second owner)
-paint still glossy, no scratches
-manual transmission
-cruise, ac, ps, pw, sunroof
-stock stereo
-leather interior (excellent shape)
-all maintenance records

the car is in EXCELLENT shape. the only downside is the mileage, but the owner has taken care of it VERY well. he never drove it in the winter!

i have driven about 4-5 924/944 cars. This one by far drove the best. The only 944 i have looked at which was better was an 89 S2, but that is a no brainer.

anyway can you guys give me a good idea on what this car is worth? Kelley Blue book in my opinion isnt very accurate.

he is asking 4,000 firm

If all maint is up to date and the car really needs nothing, $4k is fair. If the belts/clutch are recent, so that a big service bill is not in the near future, $4k is very good. If the belts and all are due, $4k is too much.
All this assumes that all else is as you say it is, a PPI is of course a good idea just to make sure.

Ditto on what Dave said. My Dad picked up an '87 924S about two months ago with 122k on the odometer. He paid $3250, which I though was a very good deal. Both his and yours sound like they're in similar shape. I don't think we'll see good runing examples of ANY 944 or 924S going for less than $4k - assuming they are in good condition with records. I know my dad got an excellent deal on his 924S and I've already told him I'll give him what he paid as soon as he grows tired of it!

Dave said it all. Ask him when the timing belt was last replaced. If he can show you a piece of paper that said it was done recently, give him 4k. If it was more like 30k miles, say "Listen, as you know, I need to get the belts done, and at 123k, I should probably do the water pump, rollers, etc...This is gonna run me $1000 pretty easily, will you take $3000?" Tires are also about $500, so that's a consideration. That's about it...My car's rounding 128k...Paid $3600 for it in very good condition @ 85k...
