From previous posts I understand some users like jets (I do). I found some very nice big photos of the Gripen fighter and thought I should share it with you.

Saab, I believe, actually had its start in aircraft production. Their old crest/emblem had a nose view of a twin-prop behind "Saab". I think BMW started in airplanes also--and their infamous emblem was inspired by a propeller in flight(the white and blue are the colors of the city where they originated--damned if I can remember which city, although I rememeber their flag is also white and blue).

Yes, they started as an aircraft builder, today saab and saab automobile are two different companies. GM bought the automobile part ~10 years ago.
J37 Viggen is a military jet
9-3 Viggen is a souped up 9-3 turbo of the previous generation.

I believe the car was named after the aircraft. Here's a good link on the Viggen (not the car)
Viggen data
Saab's been making prop & jet aircraft for quite a long time. They even made their own version of the Junkers JU86 (IIRC) back in WWII.

SAAB = Svenska Aeroplan Aktiebolaget = Swedish Aircraft Company.
SAAB like BMW started first with aviation.

Porsche made in the '70's - '80's an aviation versions of 911 engines.
SAAB fighters used to be backbone of the Finnish Airforce. We had SAAB Drakens which were replaced by F18 Hornets.

Munich. ha, I remembered. It was driving me nuts, as I can clearly remember driving past BMW headquarters on our way to Austria.
