Post 944 speaker system

I've replaced the 4 regular speakers and i'm now lookin to add a sub (or two), but I don't want my whole trunk taken up or have to rip out my back seats. Can you all show me how u did ur sub setups, and what parts you got for how much?

Thanks

I used crappy pioneer speakers, 18W RMS, not the greatest but they still work. They sound a lot better than the old ones that rattled but i think it'll sound 10times better with a sub or two. The pioneers fited perfectly other than i can't put the stock covers on the front of my car (89 944), but i like the way they look uncovered, here r some pics.http://genjar o.image.pbase.com/u10/crazandy/medium/1961655.DCP02248.jpg

The removal of the panels was ok, i used 2 screw drivers and small fingers. But the install is a bitch with screw drivers and a putty knife, thats y i only got one back on

Somewhere on this web page is a link to some 8" subs and enclosures that fit in the boot, custom made by slevy6 (who'll probably chime in soon). At least one other person on this board bought 'em and said they were great. I think they're just what you're looking for. Rockford Fosgate Punch Z's (or I think RFZ's are the new model) or JL Audio W0 subs will work in these small spaces.

Is that big black bracket on there from the factory? Looks like a pretty easy 6.5" conversion to me...

I replaced the front with Pioneers. Simple 5 minute job. Sounds nice with the Alpine 45 watt cd player. Stock rear speakers are sounding better too. I have a 10" JL sub in a wedge setup, like behind pickup truck seats. If I close the cover on the back you cant even see it. Its run by an Alpine 200 watt amp. I know some guys have put subs in the spare tire area. I think it fits 8". There is a thread somewhere on here with it, looks like a nice setup. Good luck.

I had fun taking my quarter panels off today, I put pioneers in the front as well. It really wasn't too bad as long as you took your time prying the leather apart. I found some eclipse speakers that fit well in the rear. Finally I have decent sound in my 951.

My setup. Boston sub. Had the box custom made and stuff. Originally wanted it between the front passenger seat and rear passenger seat but was too big. Sounds very good back there and the MTX amp in the left rear wheel well kicks it good with no trunk rattle.

By the way I have Eclipse 8463E speakers at all four corners. They are extraordinary and not very expensive.

I have a Kenwood 715s head unit, Polk 4" compnent set in the doors, Polk 4X6 2 way plates in the rear, 2 Kicker Solo 8" in the cubbies (did my enclosures in fiberglass, but crakced them so I am buying Slevy's enclosures), a Kenwood 600WX4 to power the subs, and am looking for another 4 channel for the fronts and rears.

The enclosures for the rear boots are the way to go if you do not want to lose space and can live with 8's. If you run 17"'s, you can do an enclosure in the spare tire well that can take a 15" if you really want to thump.

I'm probably gonna get 2 MTX 8" sub and an amp that puts out 200W RMS. I'll do a sub setup like that other guy did, under the side flaps or the rear carpet. and put the amp in the spare tire well since i also have AAA, plus i havn't deflated the spare to put it in.

I did the following:
+Pulled my rear seat bottom out
+Installed a 968 rear shelf
+Modified the shelf and fiberglassed enclosures for 2 8" Xtant subs
+Made aluminum frame rail spacers to add 1" of height to the passenger seat
+Installed a Sony ES amp under seat
+Put in 968 door panels
+Installed a set of a/d/s 320 i/s seperates in the panels
+Installed a Blaupunct "Key West" head

Now I'm very happy with the sound! No thump and bump. Just perfect imaging and a full range of sound for all of my music.

This set up gave me everything I wanted without giving up any space, other than the useless back seat bottom.
