Default Why do my wheel bearings keep loosening?

Every time I come back from a track event, I find my front wheel bearings have loosened. I can tell by jacking up the front of the car and rocking the wheels back and forth. There is noticeable play. I set them according to the factory manual method, and rock the wheels back and forth before putting it back on the ground. They are fine at that point. But then after an event, they loosen again.

I have put on new bearings and it still does the same thing. I have even cleaned the clamping nut threads with break cleaner thinking that the clamping nut is moving, but no difference. I have probably adjusted my bearings four times this year. Any ideas?

It is possible the wheels are not in good shape and as a result they put too much lateral load on the bearings causing them to loosen up.

If your spindles are worn enough, it isn't possible to tighten the wheel bearings enough so that they stay. It takes a lot of running to wear out spindles though. Are you thoroughly tightening the allen screw for the c-clamp/nut that tensions the wheel bearings? Maybe you should try to mark its position and see if it is moving any.

Have you tried lock-tite on the clamping nut bolt?

I had a similar problem and it turned out the hub was bad.

The race was warn, or specifically, in my case, out of spec. I could tighten the nut and it seemed correct, but would soon feel loose.
