Question Racing Tow Hook for 944??

Does anybody know if I can adapt this tow hook to my 944 n/a front bumper? I saw it on Rennbid.com for $25?

While we're on the subject...Of what material is the factory 951 tow-eye made? I would assume cast-iron, but I don't know. Also, was it always included with the factory tool kit?

It isn't cast iron as that is so brittle. My guess is just run of the mill mild steel but I haven't run any tests on mine.

All the 951s were supposed to come with the tow eye but they certainly are missing from a LOT of tool kits. I don't know what the deal is with so many missing. I can understand why POs would swipe the air compressor but that tow eye is an odd size that doesn't seem particularly attractive for other applications.

Maybe the tow truck drivers swipe them when they unhook. Wouldn't surprise me, given my experiences with some of those guys.

Well, flat bed tow truck drivers can be a disaster to our cars as there is no easy way for the uneducated to hook on and pull up if they don't know what they are doing. You sure don't want them wrapping a chain over the soft aluminum a-arms.

But most have these T inserts that they can stick into the lift point dimples and pull the car up and use to tie the car to the bed. Sort of scary to watch this operation on your baby, but it works OK.

So, I don't think we have come up with a reasonable explaination as to why so many eyes are MIA.

Just the site you got that from would have me looking elsewhere.

Why bother? You can get a factory tow eye from Paragon Products for $13.95.

I notice Paragon's site says it's required on race cars...does that mean it's a "racy" thing to have on a street car? I mean, ricey obviously if you don't race, but it has some basis in real racing? I think Shaun has a nice pic of a euro 951 with the hook and it looked kinda interesting, maybe even cool.
