944 oil leak under intake
hi guys... ok i have a 924 and im considering getting a 944 as my 2nd/daily driver... the one im looking at has a strange thing or maybe not strange to you guys.... there is a little black puddle of oil righ below the intake manifold under a bunch of hoses next to the #1 spark plug... kind of on the top of the head(?) towards the fron of the engine... does anyone know if this is some kind of hose that just needs tightening or is it something really bad... need an answer ASAP since i am buying the car tonight....

thanks for the quick answer... if this is the case how do i go about changing it... the haynes manual says its too difficult for the home mechanical to work on the valves, but i dont want to work on the valves i just want to pull the gasket off and change it.... do i have to ttake half the engin appart to do this? on the 924 its REALLY easy...

Actually it is not the valve cover gasket. It is the cam tower gasket. The 8-valve 944 does not have a traditional valve cover.
Steps for removal:
1. remove timing belt.
2. unbolt cam tower.
Step 1 is the time consuming part. I would certainly change my timing belt/balance shaft belt while I was in there. Also, definately replace the cork gasket on the back of the cam tower while you have it out. It is 1000% easier when the tower is out, and it only costs ~$1.
