What I would like to wind up with (if anyone cares)
I've almost decided that an '87 or '88 944S, in Stone Grey Metallic is in my future! I just love the combination of the Stone grey, with basic Phone Dial rims for some reason! Sure, the S engine is a little fragile due to the tensioner. But if I can find one with low milage, that has been taken care of, for $6000 or so...I will have plenty of emergency money, and a car slightly faster than a standard N/A.
Sorry for babbling...but I saw this ad, and it got me thinking:

Damn I couldn't have picked better my self! I love the S variations. They really come alive in the upper rev range. Sweet . I like the Stone Grey too, one of my faves!
Let us know how it goes.

Well, what I should have said is "In the near future". I'm not gonna go look at this car. I have to wait till the fall, when I can sell the BMW and use my father's Honda as my station car.
It will take till then to convince my wife I'm not insane!
Stone Grey is my fave...pretty rare too. So, this car may be 1 in a thousand (low miles, right color, etc). We'll see.

Stone Grey is beautiful. It was my favorite Porsche color until I saw the Graphite Mettallic on UDPride's 951.
If I could afford the repaint I'd change my white car to Stone Grey.
Get that S checked out, it looks pretty nice.

Yeah, the price sure is right. Thing is, it could be in need of all the goodies these cars can need...shocks, clutch, belts, etc. Something tells me at $6800, it's not a "needs nothing" car.
I HAVE to think that, since I can't buy it right now!
I'm sure someone in the Chicago area would be able to check it out for me....if I was ready, that is!?

yeah, then you can drive it two years, and end up doing an in chasis motor rebuild like what i am doing right now. total should be a bit north of 4k.
I only had to spend abut $900 for a head gasket, and $400 for motor mounts. but since the cap and rotor were off, since the belts were off, and they are next to the water pump, and the hoses are old, and the thermostat is right there, just like the oil pan gasket is right there so why not rod bearings, which means the piston is off, so might as well do rings, and since the head is off do a valve job, and while you are in there.... most of what is being done doesnt have to be done for at least 50k miles...
It adds up real fast.
so if you start at 7k, and i started at 12k that means you would have a 20k S while i have a 25k $2.

I guess it's luck of the draw Tom. Z hasn't spent a fortune, and he has the same 89 S2 you have. So it comes down to how the car was used by previous owners...and luck!
I guess if you buy a Honda...you don't have to worry about an engine rebuild. But, then you have a Honda!

Looks like a beaut' Andy. If you find a gem that checks out, jump on it. Theres nothing more expensive than passing on a pristine manicured car because you didnt want to spend just a little more to get one thats been babied and stands less of a chance of having things go bad on it. That is unless your name is Perry951 and you just rebuild these things from the ground up in your kitchen.
If you are like me and blow a brain gasket just trying to figure out how to use out-of-state gas pumps, then get the nicest one you can afford. That one above looks great.

Andy, stretch a little and get an S2. Have you driven an S yet, btw? You do have to drive it like it's stolen to get a performance advantage over a plain 944, keeping the rev's up. Is that the way you want to drive around here??
