Question Wheel spacer question for an '87

I've searched, but there's not a lot of discussion of '87+ wheel spacers. What's the max you could put on the front/back of an '87 with Twists;
17x7 w/ an offset of 55 - 225/45
17x9 w/ offset of 55 - 255/40

I do track the car w/ the PCA, and I believe spacers are ok. It looks like the options are either 7mm or 21mm for the rear (I'm unwilling to remove the hub for longer studs, I just had to do that).

Thanks

86 and earlier cars need spacers, but the 87 and later cars use the late offset wheels. You shouldn't need anything to run the Twists.

For sure, I can't wait! Are you going to be able to get down there?

I already have the Twists on the car (avatar). I just would like to get a wider stance, and improve the look. They seem to sit a bit far under the car right now.

After a bit of searching on offsets people are trying to run on ‘87+ cars, I did the math and I’ll answer my own question, I think. It sounds like 21mm will be a bit too much and risk rubbing the fenders, certainly the top of the wheel well in a corner, as well as being a little tough on the bearings. So, ether the 7mm (~1/4”) or 14mm (~1/2”) will work. With the 14mm requiring a lot of work for new studs in the back…7mm it is, or maybe 14mm front and 7mm rear since I have 17x7 rims on the front and 17x9 on the rear.

If anyone has a different opinion please let me know. I think there are too many posts that go unanswered and sometimes makes searching a pain in the A$$.

7mm is about the max amount you can use with the stock stud lengths for proper thread engagement for the lugnuts. I wouldn't use anymore. I've been there and done that.

FWIW I have a 7mm spacer on both the front and rear of my car to push the rear 9" wheels out slightly and also on the front to clear the bleeder valve on the S4 calipers.
