Alright.

First of all I wasn't talking to you Dan, I was referring to the people that I quoted. And yes I am on rennlist too much. But look who's talking

Now, v944god...

Driving on the track DOES help your skills in keeping the car in check when something happens. However, you can only work with the traction that the car has.

In my case, I was coming over a moderate hill going around a slight corner on bald rear tires in the rain and there was simply not enough traction to work with.

My situation was NOT one that is similar to something you would encounter street racing!

How can you comment on something that it seems you have never tried??? Autocross teaches you car control, plain and simple.

What is human instinct when the car starts to go out of control? STOMP ON THE BRAKES! This is why all cars come from the factory with understeer dialed in.

What does autocross and track do? It helps you CHANGE this initial reaction to the correct one! Furthermore you get a feel for what the car will do (which helps you know instantly what the correct reaction is). Just reading a book on car control isn't good enough, it's all SEAT TIME.

I suggest you try something before you say it doesn't help.

I agree, this is why there are so many accidents and bad things happening in street races. The people who do "street race" don't know what they're doing. And I'm not saying that just because someone owns a Porsche means there going to be F1 caliber drivers. More often than not a couple of Porsche enthusiasts will be more responsible than a couple of 16 year olds with riced out Hondas.

Coolhand,

Rennlist is deceiving, a lot of Porsche owners are not enthusiasts...

How many Porsche's do you wave to? How many respond to you? This is a true indication of the enthusiast population.

18 here and i think its stupid!sure some of us like to go fast but at what cost?your life?i can tell you not me.street racing here in hawaii is not a big issue but its drunk drivers.usually people here make there cars "all show and no go" which is a good thing because you dont want to go fast and ruin your bodykit.as for me well i drive a little over the speed limit but not at dangerous speeds.ive been in one accident and i dont want to be in one again!its a good thing i was in a 944 or i would be in a wheelchair!litterally!

Hah! I'm 29...

I neither condone nor support street racing.

I believe that "driving fast" and "driving safe" aren't necessarily mutually exclusive. I'm even willing to grudgingly overlook some racing, so long as it's being done "smartly" (empty road in the middle of nowhere, spotters looking for traffic, and what-not), and can deal with certain a amount of "playing" while on the road or short spurts up to a reasonable speed from stop lights.

However, I still think that street racing is stupid. I have no problem if you want to risk your life. This world needs a little more "social Darwinism". But when you start risking other people's lives, I have a problem with it. Almost every street racer seems to think that they "know how to drive", when in reality, most of them really don't have a clue what to do when it really hits the proverbial fan. Add to that the tunnel vision that many racers get when they are in a race, well, that's just a disaster waiting to happen because the other cars have now been reduced to nothing more than "rolling chicanes".

I will say "take it to the track." Not because that's where the real racers go, but because that way, you won't take anyone with you when you crash...

And please, if you do crash, take responsibility for your actions. Don't blame a movie...

Sorry if I sound cranky, I'm tired...

BB.

Not always, they may not have seen you or whatever. I try to wave at every P-car I see, usually get waves back form 944's and always 930's and 993's for some reason.

coolhand, I think you missed my point...maybe not

Anyway, my point was that most Porsche owners are not enthusiasts and thus most Porsche owners are no better than anybody else.

Truth is, enthusiasts of most cars are generally better behaved than non-enthusiasts.

EDIT:

Rennlist is deceiving because most (if not all) Rennlisters are enthusiasts, while this isn't the case for the general Porsche owning population.

I was born in 83. I would never do it.

BTW, there are far more 50's, 60's, and 70's movies depicting street racing/dragging than now adays.
