Default Odometer broken, new gear didn't work...

My odometer quit on me a few months ago so I ordered a new one and installed it. And it only works sometimes, for a mile or two then stops. Very intermittent. After taking it all apart it looks like the gear I replaced doesn't always make good contact with the other gear. And there doesn't seem to be a way to adjust it. Could I have gotten the wrong gear? This is the one I ordered

So has anyone run in to this before? If not where is a good place to ship off my cluster to be repaired?

TIA

Sorry should of included that in my post its a 88 951, I ask because I think I heard that there are a couple of differnt sized gears 20x21 or 22x20 or something like that, both for late model 944s.

The most common reason for what you have above are pieces of broken gear in the works. You need to go back into the gauge and clean out EVERY piece of the old gear. Use a tooth brush between the gear teeth. Some of that "computer duster" in a can works well to blow the little bits out of the bottom.

Correct, there are different ones for late 85.5+ 944's. Ask me how I know?

Ok, I finaly repaired mine after fitting the wrong part twice and then thinking something must be wrong here. How can they break after only just 200+ miles. I fitted the wrong part though the supplier was certain they sent me the correct one for a US 85.5+ 944, they did not realise that there were two types fitted to later 944's and also a different one again for the 968, they only stocked one type. I checked with This Comapny, got the correct part, and everything has worked ok since. Very helpful in sorting the problem out, their business is just odometers.

Hope this helps, Mike

Also, you need to remove the excess end play in the odometer wheels.
This has been covered before. Do a search.
