I picked up an Ohio Collector Plate application this morning from the BMV but nowhere on it does it have anything to do with getting the plates personalized. Are vanity plates on Collector Plates allowed or not? I got a single sheet blue form.

OK I called the Ohio BMV and they said it would cost $83.90 a year for Collector plates with personalization. Considering you dont pay $40 every other year for E-Check though, I dont think its too awful. She said still use form 4803 and just write in somewhere that you want it personalized w/said inscription. She had to tally up all the charges for me as the fees, taxes, etc on all of this gets confusing.

With no E-Check, its time to trash the catalytic convertor!

There is a difference between HISTORIC plates and COLLECTOR plates. HISTORIC is over 25 years and is a one time purchase plate. (If it's personalized, it must be renewed every year). COLLECTOR plates are any year, but the car must qualify as a collector according to State of Ohio. Most Porsches should have no problems doing this. My former boss had an '87 Turbo that had collector plates...so that beautiful new Turbo should go with no problems.

Now... DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT (!!!!) go to the BMV and tell them you're doing this to avoid e-check!!! I CANNOT EMPHASIZE THIS ENOUGH!!! Don't even mention e-check. Simply go to get your car licensed as a collector/show car and you shouldn't have any problems. You may have to stretch the truth a little about how your car is used (I think it's supposed to only be used for shows and "pleasure"...whatever that means.

Good luck!

UDPride - my blue form had a section on the bottom of the back to indicate like up to four choices for Personalized plates (and it had the rules, etc. for characters). I wonder why yours is different. Does yours have a pricing section on the middle of the back and a section for "reserved" plates underneath the pricing section? The personalized section was just below the reserved section on my form. Oh well, good luck. I wanted personalized plates but I'm too much a cheap-skate to spring for them.

Nope. On the back of the blue form it just has info on the rules for applying for the collector plates, then at the very botton there are various fees for registering them via mail.

Too bad GA doesn't have that option. I have seen some hoopty's with classic car plates.

Why what are they going to do it that you haven't already done to it.

Rich, on that ticket.

That's $173 CND right? What's the big deal. If you want I can root around in my couch, I should be able to come up with enough USD to cover it.
