What can you offer me in the way of advice on getting some insurance for DE?

Check with your regular insurance: they may offer coverage. Some may just offer coverage for your first incident, then they do not.

Some tracks offer insurance for the day.

There is a thread going on in the racer's forum that addresses this very issue, however, for club racing, which means more expensive insurance:
