ok....im lazy right now and done feel like reading through all those post why you dont want 18's

someone sum it up for me please....

personally i cant see how wheels size can affect a car....unless its the torque being applied to the bolts holding the wheels on when going arund the turn...

</strong><hr></blockquote>Because the factory issued a Tech Service Bulletin that prohibited the installation of 18" wheels on any Porsche that did not have them from the factory. They went so far as to say that any dealer that saw such a car should inform the owner of this.

When the TSB was written this was probably CYA stuff for the lawyers. Since then numerous 944/951/968 cars (including the 968 Turbo S) have been TUV certified in Germany with 18" wheels. Change the caster mount to the new style and you're set.

what exactly is the caster mount?

how much are new ones from a used 968?

check out my $550 porsche with $1,000 18" wheels/tires on it.

Also on the solid- vs. hollow-spoke comparison, couldn't you do it by weight? Don't know what they are exactly, but I heard 20/24lbs for the hollow-spoke wheels and if the ones you're look at are heavier, they must be the the solid ones?

The difference is roughly 20/24 vs. 25/29 for hollow vs solid (7.5" front and 10" rear). You can also do it by looks. The hollow spoke wheel sets come with metal valve stems and they look like this, with a slightly more pronounced lip at the edge:

I am going to be buying the 19 inch 1pc turbo twist replicas soon. They should make the car look BEEFY!.....Probaly slow me down a little, but the way they look will be worth it.

Re: the caster mount... it's the rear A-arm mount that is also used to adjust caster via an eccentric "bolt." New mounts are about $45 each, and new eccentrics (if you buy them) are about $55 each. Ask for a good discount. Part numbers and pictures are in the Suspension section of my website. Updating is simple, but you'll need to recheck the alignment.

So the two caster mounts are the only update needed to safely use 18" wheels on all four wheels of my 1986 944na?
