No spark on my 86 944. Was running great, cranks, gets fuel, spark to coil ,Help!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I was driving the 944, day was hot, ran on the hot side temp-wise, but it ran great. Have checked coil, DME ect.Thinking about new wires but I think hot weather fried a sensor- where should I start or what is the typical culpret, Mechanic is mystfied and I don't want to start replacing good parts! Has to be a part subject to hot driving, stop and go traffic.

theres not that many sensors that will stop ur car from firing. i would go back over coil, all wires, wiring to coil, is it oem coil? some aftermarket ones, the towers are too tall

I kind of lost track of what is going on here.

Did you replace the speed and reference sensors? If the DME does not see a signal from the speed sensor, it will not produce a spark. With the ignition on, there should be 12V between each of the small terminals on the coil and ground. The DME pulses ground on the coil driver circuit to produce a spark in the coil. If there is no speed signal, this will not happen.

In my car, I am about to replace the harness between the sensors and the DME. At that point everything from the DME through the sensors will be brand new. Lindsey Racing makes these and they have been highly recommended.

if it is the sensors, get the cheap bmw ones from paragon. I think they are only 70$ each rather than 150 for the porsche ones

Good point. The BMW E30 uses the same sensors. The only difference is the wires are about 6 inches longer and they cost 1/2 as much. That is what I did.

Here is a link to the eBay auction I found my reference sensors at: The Bosch number is 0 261 210 002. Price was $71.95 each. They were shipped directly from Bosch and fit perfectly although the wire length was a few inches longer.

Thanks for advise. I'm new to site and I'm trying to figure out how to post new messages and threads.
I'm glad for a site that can help and won't give me the run around! Will keep thread updated and pass along any good info. Gotta keep our babies running and enjoy the PORSHE dream.
