auxiliary air valve location
I'm trying to find my auxiliary air valve. I think it might be clogged/faulty. My idle starts at about 900 when cold and then moves up to about 1100-1200 when the car is warm. And when I turn on my a/c the idle drops to about 900.
As I understand it, the aux air valve is supposed to open when the a/c turns on to keep the idle up.
Whats the best way to test if its clogged or needs to be replaced?

You don't say what year/model?
If 85.5 or later - It's under the intake manifold, chrome or gold anodized, 4" long, 1.5" diameter, 2 air ports, 1 electrical connection.
You might check to be sure your TPS is set correctly and functioning before you go after the ISV.
To check the ISV, try pulling the electrical connector off while running - see if there's a change (check the TPS first though - or you might get a false indication).
If this is an early car, then it only uses that valve when the car's cold - shouldn't affect normal running. You may have to adjust the idle bypass to correct this.
Good Luck!

AAVs are used on early 944s only. It was replace by the "Idle Positioner" as of 1985.5 and later. It sounds like your Idle Positioner is not working at all. Either no signal or it is gunked up and not moving internally.
