Post fuel hose/rail technical bulletin or recall

I get a noise from my 1988 951 on hard use of the engine that someone suggested is the fuel pump. I noticed on the web that there was a tech bulletin/recall on 944's to do with "Replacement of fuel hose/rail". It was Recall number L01. Does anyone know what that was about? What the symptoms were etc? Has anyone else had a noisy (sort of whining) fuel pump?

The recall was a hose update since the fuel lines run over the exhaust. I would assume that it has expired by now, and also your car probably had the update.

Not sure on the pump noise.

The recall was to update a small hose that runs from pressure regulator to the fuel rail. The fittings would dry out and start leaking right on top of the exhaust - potentially causing car fire.

Not sure about fuel pump noize - it is pretty easy to replace; have a fire exstinguesher ready just in case (no I did not have an accident with fire yet, but it is a smart thing to have). Replace the fuel filter since you are in there anyway.

Thanks.

Ah yes, the fuel rail hose. I almost had a BBQ under my hood due to that hose. It was leaking a drop every second right onto the top of the sparkplug wire. This was back in 96 and PCNA would not cover any of it under the recall (guess it did indeed expire) although a recall did exist at one time. In any case one end of the hose was at the fuel rail and the other end was in the tank. The dealer said that they had to drop the rear suspension and the tranny to change the hose. I eventually found an independent shop which did the whole job for $600 (dealer wanted $1200-1500).

The recall did not expire, I called various dealers right after i purchased my car about 5 months ago. One of the dealers i called ran my vin and told me my car had an open recall. I went last month to get it done, new shiny fuel line the little one of course. The coolest thing was picking up my car in the dealer and looking at the receipt $0.00. I had to do the incomming line and return line my self as they were leaking and also almost caused a fire, simple fix just replacing the rubber piece that goes over the left side of the engine compartments in to the pressure regulator and dampener. <img src="graemlins/bigok.gif" border="0" alt="[thumbsup]" />
