Post 928S4 powered 944 (85.5 NA)

Assuming I have this motor, what will it take to transplant this into my NA 944? and what kind of performance gains can I expect? anything that can be done to the 928 motor to make it more efficient prior to dropping in? budget isn't really the issue, it is more how feasible it is.
what would I need to do to make it REALLY work??

Build a tube frame.......The 928 engine will not fit between the frame rails of the 944.

LT1 is right, btw the Kellymoss built 944 does have a custom frame:

They did a lot more than just drop some weber carbs on it to get 600hp from that engine.

Swap in a 951 drivetrain, and start building it up. OR, a small block chevy, if you have the stomach for that sort of thing.

I have seen some posts and there are companies that sell the kit to convert 944 to LT1 Chevy engine (from Impala SS, Corvett). There were some happy customers as well.

The modifications are minimal, even instrument cluster will work with the new engine (temp, votage, tach, etc.)

Thanks.

I guess Project356.com and 944S Boyeee find ethnically insensitive remarks pretty funny, huh?

I hope the board slaps both of you down for being the insensitive ***** that you are.

Not being Hispanic, I wasnt offended by the comment. If I was Hispanic, I might feel the need to choke some sense into those little boys.

how did I know someone was going to take that the wrong way? I had a 69 vette, I know that there were chevy's built in mexico for some time to offset the american labor, etc... that is what it referred to, not an ethnicity, I have no problem with hispanic people, as I have no problem with japanese people, but you wouldn't catch me dead in one of their cars. just a matter of personal preference.

sorry if anyone was offended.

I think your going to struggle to get a 163HP stock car to get to 400HP with just Porsche parts.

Sell the 944 and get a 951 or 930. Then you're more than half way there at least. After that some major upgrading and work will get you to 400HP.

It would still be cheaper than transplanting an S4 engine in a 944 and then tweaking that upto 400 HP I'd think.

Sam.
