Exclamation Cookie cutter wheel refinish writeup (Update)!

I still have to sand/polish a pair of rims and throw on a clearcoat, but I figured this would be helpful for anyone who wants to get going. So, it's ain't done yet, but, this part is...I need to get a DNS server set up...

<a href="http://209.6.126.158:8000/944/wheels/wheels.htm" target="_blank">Refinishing Cookie Cutters</a>

Lemme know if you have questions/tips/corrections.

Update: Added a centercaps painting section and generally tidied everything up...

Your "Wheels" section looks great and should be helpful to listers!

IMO, refinished and polished cookies look at least as good as than they did when factory new, better, in fact. You've inspired me to re-do my track wheels! I've never had much luck clear coating bare aluminum so good luck with that and let us know how it comes out.

Great Job, keep it up. I too am annoyed at my now dark blue cookie cutters, especially since I put on new black lug nuts.

I like that 'lathe'. I hope you still have all your fingers.

I always suspected they were dark blue, then I got a new black centercap and all was revealed.

I was wondering about clearcoating the aluminum...it's not very sticky, and it's necessarily smooth, so...My plan was just to do real real thin dusting coats all day and just keep coating until the cans are empty...I was going to use Duplicolor wheel paint, because I think I saw it on a shelf nearby. Has anyone painted bare aluminum with good results?

By the way, Carl, you've been a great help in this little endeavor.

I'll eventually do this when I get another set of wheels so I can take my time.

Looks fantastic! <img border="0" alt="[thumbsup]" title="" src="graemlins/bigok.gif" />

Nicely done. I should have done this when I took pictures of the "porsche lathe" in its research & development stage. Regardless, I wish that such a documentary had been around (with useful warnings) when I started this process.

I don't really know how to go about that, but it's public domain as far as I'm concerned...

I really need to get a domain to avoid the risk of my IP address changing (it's sparsely dynamic)...

The ftp site is not working for me and I have a set of cookie cutters to refinish. I have read that oven cleaner works to take off the anodizing.
