REAR

Camber = L -0.38' R -0.54'

Partial toe = L -2.20 R 2.30

Total toe = 0.00

Thrust Angle = -0.18'
----------------------------------------------------

I do alignments all the time. Yes... real ones. Not the BS stuff you get from your local tire store. They never do them because they CAN'T, or don't want to. I can underatand that, because they are a PITA. Stupidest fascinating design I've ever seen. But they have to be done.

I have never used minutes, so I'm utterly clueless how that translates to degrees and inches. The numbers above do not jive to me at all. I don't understand how you have toe-out on one side, toe-in on the other, and only have a .18 thrust angle? I will say that numbers make my head hurt, and have been known to confound me completely.

Be that as it may, and besides the fact that new tires always feel a bit floatier than the old ones because of all that extra rubber squirming when you turn the wheel, you should have toe-IN in the rear, not 0. Also, even with a total rear toe of 0, and a small thrust angle, the car is dog-tracking. The front angles are set using the back as reference, so if the rear is off, the front is a fudge job in compensation for that.

I'd make them re-do it. The camber is not that close either, but that is not necessarily critical. You should have the rear toe positive (in) on both sides, and fairly even (like your thrust angle now) between them. It can be done.

Check that the front sway bar is secured correctly. The two bracket that hold the sway bar to the body can break as I found recently on my 944.

I'd listen to RedlineMan. He kind of knows what he's talking about.

Guys thanks,

John, just spoken to the the tire shop who are not keen on resetting the rears as the adjusters are usually difficult to free (mine are like new!). Also, they reckon adjusting the rears will throw out the fronts and it's difficult to get a decent balance!!!

End of confirmation...I'll find a decent specialist who can accurately set up the car in the SE of England!...either that or sell it and buy a 928....

Regards

Jon

The 928 is a whole other world of pain if you're looking for an easier alignment. You need the car sitting on its suspension to properly perform a 928 alignment.

Yep, I know that...I've had four of the beasts...Never had so many problems getting correct alignment as I've had with the 944

Even manage to get the scooby aligned without issue...so why so many problems with the 944
