Choice between two 951's......
Ok guys, I have two 951's that I'm looking at please give your feedback on the two....
Choice 1:
1987 944 Turbo -Gaurds Red / Black
151K, always steet driven, full records, good compression, new timing belt, rollers, water pump, alternator, (total of 4.5K in new parts and recipets). Pristine car except for and very small exhaust manifold leak. Fully repainted.
$7000
Choice 2:
1988 Turbo S -Guards Red / Tan
70k, has been in an accident, and it shows up in the car fax as a salvage title. Partially painted, paint in good shape, seats a worn, dash cracked. But the motor and driveline are in great shape.
$7500
Ok, it boils down to this, one car is in great shape with hight miles, but the other one is a turbo S. Should I even bother with the turb S if I already have all the suspension and brake upgrades and I plan on going beyond the K26/7 to a Garrett unit.

There's your answer. Go with the 87 - better records, no probs on insurance, and it looks like it's been taken care of. The other one sounds like it was rode hard and put up wet.

Stick with the 87.
1. The records indicate the whole car has been well maintained
2. The salvage title will give you a lot of problems with insurance in North Carolina
3. In the 88 Turbo S, your guessing that it's in good shape but it's an unknown variable. You could be getting yourself into a no win situation with what looks to be like a deal on the surface. The price is low for a reason so be afraid, be very afriad.
4. You already know the 951 in and out. You have a lot of the mods from your old car right? Take those and install them. I don't think the "S" is worth the risk. Hindsight is 20/20 but foresight is difficult when you have "rare" Turbo S fever. Use your head and stick with the 87.
5. Guards Red is still a bad *** color, no matter what most think. It's still a sexy *** color on a sexy damn car and you know this!!!

Thanks for the responces guys, I was thinking the 87 was the better way to go, but I just needed to make sure I wasn't missing out on something with the S.
I hope I can build it up in to as nice a car as my first one (I think I should manage with all the parts I'll have on hand).

There is a black 86 951 just up the road from me. Very nice, new belts, turbo, clutch, etc. 113K miles. Black interior. Phone Dials. Everything looks in order, he wants $9500 for it. The guy that owns it runs an IAP (import auto parts) so he probably had no reason to skimp on maintenance. Here it the phone#

Tell them you are calling about the 944 turbo. I looked at it for a freind of mine who ended up not being able to come up with the funds. I think it looks quite nice, I didn't get a chance to drive it though.

I saw that car also. It does look very nice. If you call about this number was on it also...937-299-3399. I think the interior was black/tan. If I didn't have a mortgage I'd buy it.
