Can I drive the car a little bit with no balance shaft belt?

Previous Owner put my Balance Shafts in 180 degrees out of phase. No one around (including mechanics) diagnosed it, until it vibrated apart the fuel rail and oil pick up tube at a track event.
I think you're fine for a trip to the store. Mine made it for a long time on the street, and a full weekend at the track before spraying fuel all over the manifolds... and that was at 2X the vibration.

If you drive with and without the balance shafts you'll notice the vibration sure as hell isn't "mild".

A buddy took me for a ride in a 944 with misaligned balance shafts, and it felt like my diesel when it had bad motor mounts.

I'm currently not running balance belts since my complete engine rebuild last year, 10k miles later no oil seepage or any other issues. I did notice a little extra vibration at first but nothing major, I'm used to it now and barely notice it.

Its on my to do list as well
you have to trust in wiessach. i am on my 4th car (924, 911, 986, 944).
there is no that system is robust enough to cancel out a major imbalance problem like some of the submitters have suggested.
if it was that much of a problem, no one would sell the kits and the racers wouldn't do it.
i would like to see some one run an before and after dynoo run to see if there was any gains. no one within 100 miles has a dyno so i cant do it

Of course there will be a gain.
But after 30-40K miles your fuel rail WILL crack or you oil pickup tube will.
Racers do it because you gain HP and lose weight. Their engines are also constantly inspected. Doing this to a daily driver or a car you need to rely on is just stupid for ~3hp.
And please do NOT tell us to educate ourselves when you do not know what you're talking about.
And BTW, balance shafts have almost nothing to do with driver comfort. Your bolts feel the vibrations WAY more than your butt.

Driving 968 without balance shaft belts
I have driven my '94 968 for about 200,000 miles without the balance shaft belt. Never noticed any vibrations or other issues. The roller went bad and made such a loud noise that I took the belt off to confirm and it seemed to run fine so I just left it off. This occurred at about 65,000 miles. I now have 267,000 miles on it and am replacing the water pump for the 4th time (still a pain but one of life's necessities). To be honest, I may have just been lucky here but it sure makes replacing the water pump and timing belt a whole lot simpler.
