I had a problem with rotten egg type of smell around the passenger's footwell. Corrosion from the battery. Aren't acids fun?

My "stench" was emanating from the cloth seats. Smelled very musty after shampooing the seats and stayed that way for a long time. I toned down the smell alot by sprinkling that baking soda carpet cleaner on the seats, leaving it on overnight, then vacuuming it out. Also bought a pair of Wet Okole seat covers, and keep a box of baking soda in the car (the one meant for the fridge/freezer, with the tear-out side panels, so you don't have to actually open the box and spill that stuff all over, and possibly spending a night in jail until the lab results come back, proving that it really is baking soda)

Cool

Try the following one or the other always works for me:

#1. Lay off the mexican food
#2. Lay off the sushi <img src="graemlins/roflmao.gif" border="0" alt="[hiha]" /> <img src="graemlins/roflmao.gif" border="0" alt="[hiha]" />

hey perry,

i got the charcoal cannister out, and it does smell like gas... i will be getting a new one, but before i run out and pay whatever is needed, i would like to know what you paid for yours, and where you got it from.

if anyone else (parts dealers) has one that is new or SLIGHTLY used i will be interested=)

One point, it is designed to hold gas vapor. If the hoses are removed it will smell like gas. The question is with the ports pluged, the outside cleaned of any spilled fuel, does it smell like gas? If it does, the canister is leaking and should be replaced. Also, does it have liquid gas in it? If it does it will have to be replaced. Don't try and drive the liquid gas out by heating, it will be the last thing you do...something about natural selection rule.

Might want to check all the lines for cracks or just replace them while you have it apart.

well, i called the porsche dealer for a new activated carbon container, and they run 95 dollars. well, after further inspection, my canister is in good shape. i atribute the gas smell to the horrible shape my engine is in. i am running super super rich, and the smell is coming from the exhaust (my educated guess). i inspected the fuel tank, lines, and filler tube, all look in good shape.

on another note, is there a way i can reduce the amount of fuel my engine is consuming? Adj FPR?

Biggest thing is to find out why it is running rich. Bad O2 sensor, bad plugs, bad injectors, bad DME, the list goes on.

My charcoal canister was full (liquid fuel), thus the replacement. On hot days, you could smell old gas in the pass compartment, and near the fender. I have not installed it yet, but am sure that was the cause.

Here's another possibility. I used to have a subscription to alldatadiy.com, and ther was a service bulletin for P-cars, that talked about customer complaints of foul smell (rotten eggs). The bulletin said this can occur with bad gas, and that Porsche shops should not do anything but first recommend the owner try a different brand of gas.

[quote] I can smell it on my clothesfor a good 1/2 hour at least after driving the car. This also applies to passengers <hr></blockquote>
(Partial) Leather seats?
May very well be an left-over of some wax used in the past.
