New Porsche Owner Struggles with Sun Roof
Just purchased a 1987 - 944 in beautiful condition and am lovin' every driving minute...and lovin' reading the Rennlist comments...I'm learning lots. You guys are all dedicated car nuts. So somebody tell me what's what with the sun roof... I can't figure out how to pop the sunroof out completely. It raises electrically vent postion and closes just as it should. When in the raised postion I pop the clips but the centre piece clippy thing (what ever it is) won't let go. Am I doing something wrong?

Congratulations on the purchase.
To remove the sunroof turn the key to the first position and then press the sunroof button. You should hear the arms move yet the roof will stay down. Now you can let the latches down in the front and remove the sunroof. The roof has a saftey feature that you can not remove it with the car running which is why you can just get the roof to go up and down.

WELCOME!
Put the key in the ignition and turn to first position. Then push the "open" sunroof side of switch. This will disengage the sunroof. Pop the clips and push up on the rear of it. Slide it straight up and out.
Have fun with the sun!!!

- Close the sunroof.
- Turn the ignition to position 1.
- Operate the sunroof switch - you should see the latches retract.
- Unclip the plastic hinges in the front.
- Push up in the back, then once it's up, grab hold of the sides and lift straight up (the wind deflector will slide out of the sunroof).
That's it!

I remember taking mine off the first time. I was giving a buddy a ride and he said, "Yo, lets go targa style and lose the roof." I figured my god a godo idea. Then I cant figure it out on my own without reading any instructions because as we all know instructions are for bonafide wimps, dorks, geeks, wussies, and posers. OK, after 10 minutes I give up and crack open the manual. Another 10 minutes later he asks me if I have it licked yet. My words are "errrr...drrrr..uhhhh...". I tell myself Im a college graduate at a highly respected private university and am now at the point of dumbing down my entire graduation class with this damn roof. I finally figure it out after another 10 minutes, then when I have the stupid thing off, I look around my garage for another 10 minutes to find a place to put it bc I dont want to put it in the trunk and unravel the moonroof bag thats so nicely rolled up. I cant find anywhere to put it except on the hood of the other car which I know would get driven as soon as I left and gone would be my moonroof, so I put the thing back on and we leave and decide to just use the tilt instead and call it a day. We are related to the Newman family. Not the Paul Newman one, the Alfred E. one.
