24 Hours of Lemons
I think my last rennlist post was written sometime over a year ago, or at least something close to it, but I participated in the http://www.24hoursoflemons.com/ over the weekend and it made me think of my p-car days. I think the right 944 could be the ideal canidate (or 924) for this event. I might be starting building (or taking apart depending on how you look at it) a $1 944 for next year.
My team ran a 318is this year, full account can be found here: http://beertechracing.blogspot.com/
Were there any 944 guys there?

I agree, finding the car is the hard part, but it can be done. Our car came in right at $500 because we purcahsed it back from the insurance company after it was totaled. Frame was good, so we just slapped a cage, seat, and harnesses in the car and had it at the track a few weeks later.
I am sure that most wrecked 944's can be purchased back for around the same price, so if anyone gets in a wreck, fear not your car can go out in a blaze of glory.

an old VW beetle would be great for this.
They're not fast at all, but they're cheap and cannot be stopped. (This was seen in the Top Gear where they crossed africa....the bug was the only car that made it without modification LOL).
You could get one for a couple hundred bucks, and work on the engine for some extra power. lol

Here's a link to pictures of the Norcal 944 Spec entry last October

The 944 does really well and if we hadn't broken part of the suspension would have finished well.

How did you find a running 944 for under $500 and not have it crushed? Anyway, my guys at iRAcing.com are going to be in CT. this weekend for the New England race. Should be fun!

Honestly, guys, the miatas and the rx-7's would be strong competition for the 944. I was on the Utility Muffin team with Chad and the CRX was a great car for the purpose. The track was prett narrow through the chicane. We also had a 924Turbo that we found for $325 but it had so many problems we ditched it.
For may money I'd steer away fro the 944 for this race. As a club racer... can;t be beat!
