This isn't aimed at you Banana....I can't sleep, so I'm a little grumpy.

People everywhere make an engine out to be something its completely not. It is a simple concept when boiled down to basics. Simple thinking can figure it out.

I know race teams spend millions of dollars on developing engines....but this is what they're doing. From top fuel dragsters making 6,000HP, to auto makers, to guys drinking beer working in the garage at home....making the simple process work better.

Everyone has thier own thoughts, opinions, and ways of doing things. I'm not preaching to change minds...just trying to educate.

I just did this (see the ""Evil Snap Ring Colouring Book" thread), and as part of the process, I ran the engine without the tstat while running water into the coolant reservoir (to flush out the old coolant). Just water, no chemical flush, since that tends to take apart old radiators.

(I should replace my radiator as well, to be on the safe side, but I'm not up for another project just yet.)

Anyway, you will not kill your engine, but it's not drivable like this, since it's pretty much impossible to get up to a stable operating temperature. It will idle low and run extremely rough. Also, it will run rich, since fuel injectors will think the car is just too cold, and will keep operating in "warm-up" mode.

Anyway, running that cold is hard on your engine, since the oil will not protect it properly at cold temperatures (this is somewhat less of a factor if you're running synthetic rather than dinosaur juice).

Best to leave it be until you have the tstat in, I think.
