No, the battery retains its charge and the alternator appears to be behaving correctly. Sometimes I turn the key and there is nothing. No courtesy light, not even the clock. Then as if nothing were wroing everything comes back on, the engine cranks and starts fine. Strange.
A second, related, symptom is that if this problem occurs when the car is already running there is "bucking" and a heavy jolt when switching on something electrical such as headlights or demister.
I've cleaned all the fuses and relays and some of the underside fuse box multiplugs. I've also ran auxilliary grounds and changed the ignition switch. I've also unplugged the alarm for a week to see if that made any difference. Because everything seems to go off I figured it had to be a main battery cable or internal fuse box connection. Does that sound logical?
