When I pulled the camhousing the lifters dumped out all over the place. Yes
the manual says "have someone hold them" There was
not "someone" around anyway. I need a honest opinion. I REALLY REALLY want
to put this thing back together this weekend. Do I place the lifters back in
and get on with it or wait till Tuesday and get a whole new set of lifters?
Thanks
David M.

Clean them all very well with mineral spirits, and apply a decent amount of moly assembly lube to them on install. Helps lubricate them, and keep them in the housing.
They tend to spin a little during use, so they should wear somewhat even. I would not worry too much about it. Worse things have happened.

One tip on reinstalling the cam-housing so that the lifters don't fall out. First place the gasket on top of the head.
You can hold the housing on its top side with your fingers wrapped over the top so that you can hold the lifters in. Only the ones where the cam lobe is at full lift will really cause you problems. Hold the housing rotated so that the lifters are horizontal, then shift the housing forwards and back to align with valves. Then rotate the housing away from you and down on top of the valves. Pull out fingers and drop the cam-housing down. When you pull out your fingers, there should be such a small gap that when the lifters fall out, they don't fall out all the way before they are stopped by the valves.

Jack up the drivers side of the car as high as you can. That way the head-to-cam housing face will almost be vertical. You can put the cam housing back on without having to tilt it so much.

Thanks Danno. I am not so worried about installing them, I will use assy lube grease. I was just worried about installing lifters in places where other lifters had already seated them selves from the previous install.
Thank You
