Post Stereo Questions

Hey I'm new to the group I've been looking for a good 944 forum for a while now. I have an '83 944 and have a question for all you other 944 owners. What kind of speakers have you replaced the factory ones with? I have power windows if that makes a difference in the mounting depth. Also have you installed a subwoofer? What size and how did you mount it? Thanks in advance for the feedback!

In the front doors I have a pair of MB quart 5 inch 2 ways and a pair of 1 inch MB Quart tweeters. In the rear panels under the windows is a pair of MB quart 6 inch 2 ways and in speaker boxes in the hatch are a pair of MB quart 8 inch. The front set of speakers are fed by an MTX 4300 and the rear speakers are fed by an MTX 275. Total power almost 1200 watts. The head unit is an Alpine 7940 running into an Alpine graphic equalizr.

david, I put the 4x6 MB Quarts in front and i've been thinking about putting MB Quarts in the rear speaker area under the windows also. Which model did you use and did you have to modify the fit to get the 6 inchers in there (cut out paneling, fabricate support plate, etc)? Much obliged>

In my early 85 I had to cut out the hole and fabricate plates for the speakers to fit. in my late 85 they went right in. don't remember the model number but they are MB quart 6 inch 2 ways.
If i had to do it again i would most likely put in the 4x6 in the door as they go right in. They were not made yet though when I did mine.

Eclipse 4x6's in the rear and pioneer 4x6's in the front. If you have the factory radio make sure to get the crutchfield wiring harness so you don't have to cut up any of the wires. Putting speakers in the rear isn't that difficult if you take your time, it took me about 5 hours for both rears.
