What would make my oil pressure gauge read 5 at idle and then peg out once I rev the engine up? The check engine oil light in the lower left corner of the dash is also on. The motor runs fine and isnt making any abnormal noises. Thanks for any help.

 

Have you checked that you have oil?? The oil pressure guage could easily be faulty.

 

Yes . The motor has plenty of oil. What is the quikest way to test if you have good oil pressure if your gauge is broken? Someone suggested taking the filter off and cranking the engine over to see if oil shoots out. Will that work?
