My tacho did some bouncing as well, it disapeared after cleaning the grounds under the dash.
Am still tapping the dash during start-up though.
Guess that old habbits take time to wear out..*)

I would echo 944Targa-fan, The VDO gauges might not be the most accurate on the face of the earth but they are indestructible. My guess is that with moisture you get a build up underneath the screw contacts. The screws that hold gauge pod to the outside bezel acts as a contact between the circuit board "plastic" and the inner gauges themselves. unscrew those screws. Clean the contacts and screw them back in. Also check the ground ing cables that should be there in-front of you. I had the same problems on my 86 n/a. but i fixed them when i did the complete color swap of all my gauges from amber to red. good luck
