Default 86 944 na -- temp gauge?

ok I have noticed that when I am driving the temp gauge at th ebottom 1/3rd of the guage but if pull int oa parking lot and I am crusing for a parking spot the temp jumps up .... not into the red area but up close to the top of teh range of th e"normal " temp

is this nromal for these cars?

yeah, pretty normal untill the fans kick on for it to get to the 2/3 line or so. Then it should drop back to the 1/3 line. You can crack the bleeder for the cooling system and see if you get any air out of it or not, but sounds to me as long as you dont overheat any, it's all working OK.

Someone here suggested I try a low temp thermostat and a low temp fan switch. This was an excellent idea. Mine used to do just like yours and I was always nervously watching for "the needle creep" but now its rock steady at the first line. Its only been a couple of weeks but I've been in stop and go traffic on a couple of 97d days. The parts came from Zims.
I'm really surprised this combination isn't the norm for all 944s south of the great lakes. Now as soon as I get the AC fixed, I'l be ready for a real stress test...Bruce
