Default should I replace my timing belt tensioner stud?

my timing belt is 2 years old now with about 15,000 kms on it same with the water pump / all the rollers / tensioners.

I'm thinking of getting the tensioner stud replaced by a porsche shop. Don't want to do it myself because of course the stud is likely not going to come out easily and it might break and it'll turn into a mess.

the shop told me about 3 hours labour if it goes smoothly and the stud does not break off. if it does I guess the labour might double.

so is it worth paying about 600 bucks to get the stud replaced?

my car has 250,000 kms on it and th stud did not look rusty but the bolt behind the tensioner had backed out for a while and my belt was riding forward.

also if I do get the shop to replace the stud might as well put a brand new belt on? my gates belt is only 2 years old and 15 k kms.

or should I just attempt it myself? it's my only car so I dont' want to break the stud and turn it into a one month project.

YES!!!!!
Esp since you have an 85.5!
Please do.. I don't think they would charge you much more for just a stud.

well the thing is my timing belt is not due to be replaced. It was replaced 2 years ago along with all rollers, seals, and waterpump.

I was going to go for my 15k tension check but now I'm thinking of paying the shop to replace the stud and might as well stick a new belt on if they have to take it apart.

Well what happened to me made me so unbelievably angry I would never leave it again.
Thing is, that stud is only $5 for me, but it will cost you labor and all that mess.

IMO it is risky to leave it, but it may be fine.

yeah I can imagine. I think it's stupid that they used a stud, why not use a bolt that is easily replacable. plus that stud isn't even that thick.

this issn't something I want to do myself as there is a chance the stud is frozen on tight and will just snap and drilling out a snapped stud and maybe helicoiling it won't be fun.
