944 headlight motor repair
How do you take apart the headlight motor to clean the brushes which sometimes get stuck. Do you have to remove the motor from the linkage and if so how do you reinstall so they open and close properly.
Sometimes just a good tap on the side of the motor will cause it to work.
thanks for any response

the way it links up to the headlights is jsut a metal bar that goes across right behind the nose panel. if you look right next to the motor there is a circular metal peice with 3 small bolts in it. if you take those out then the motor will be able to move freely and you can unscrew it underneith to get it out. im not 100% sure if there is a srew or screws on the bottom side but this is how i got it off. when it comes to opening it and fixing brushes and things i have no clue. but i hope that gets you on your way.

The side cover to the gear box has electrical contacts that feed power to the motor as the linkage revolves. In most cases cleaning these wipers and tracks will take care of the hit and miss rotation.
It's important to have the two rubber sleeves/covers in good shape. Any water intrusion will really mess things up after a while.
