Post Damn oil level light

Does this happen to others?

I drive the car about a mile from the train station to the gas station, fill up the tank and start the motor. Guess what, the oil light is on.

Check the oil the next day and I'm maybe a half quart down.

This happens a lot. Is it because I take short trips and the oil hasn't dropped to the bottom?

Two things... You want to check the oil shortly after running the engine. This is the right level (filter full, oil not all just drained into the pan). This should correct the issue. The sensor is sensitive to even slightly low levels.

The second thing is that the light will reset only after the car has been turned off for a couple of minutes. Used to drive me crazy too, now I keep just a tad more oil in it. When I run at the track I add a half quart or so over full anyway. No harm in that.

Keep the shiny side up,
