Default Need some parts to restore engine after #2 failure

I need

1. Oil pump - new or good used one or good source
2. I would like to install external oil cooler. If someone has aftermarket radiators or lines or something to offer or good source
3. Oil accumulator (Accusump, Moroso) - good used one or good source where to get one.

Spun #2 rod bearing. Under 5000 miles after rebuild.
Warped crankshaft and scrached oil pump. Oil pickup tube was ok. Engine oil level was at max mark. I used 5W50 Valvolive VR1 racing engine oil.
Some say that the oil was the one to blame.

I will trie now perp drilled #2 and #3. Add crank scraper/windage tray, oil cooler and oil accumulator.

Sorry to hear your engine is down. Some might argue that possibly something wrong with rebuild caused the problem after only 5K? Many here have used the VR-1 20W-50 for years and are still going strong, not sure about that 5W though.

add myself to the the "VR1 20w-50" crowd. Probably 3 years running...

Did you check for bearing clearances?

I'm just curious - why only perp-drill #2 and #3 instead of all 4?

I did not check them when the engine was put together. Crankshaft was machined to first undersize (0,25) and I used oversize(0,25) bearings.
I did not install them myself. This time I will measure them if possible.

This https://rennlist.com/forums/showthre...ghlight=baffle and other links.
I will try this setup because #2 and #3 seem to have problems with oiling. I know that #2 has that problem, twice allready.

Do you have pictures of the inside of the oil pump. If there are scraches the pump is no good.
What year and model it came from? Part code?

Here are the coolers I can get used off of our race cars. They have all been (as far as I know) sonic cleaned before being put away. The only reason we take them off is for milage reasons. Most components after 1200 miles come off.

11-1/2” x 5 3/4” x 2” Used Setrab

11-1/2” x 7 3/4” x 2” Used Setrab

11” x 5-1/2” x 1-1/2” Used Long Cooler

6-1/2” x 3” x 2” New Setrab used as a power steering cooler

I also am purchasing for my trans cooler project a 8.25 x 4 x 2 cooler for $80.00 on the shelf localy new. I am unsure about the price of the above listed coolers, but I can ask as soon as you let me know what size may work for you. Good luck with the project, and sorry for the failure.

You know there are many theories why this happens, but nobody really has a definitive answer to prevent this failure. I have read hundreds of posts on this subject.

I'd be curious as to what conditions you were running the car when it happened. Were you running high revs around high g-loaded left handers? Did your engine have the Lindsey baffle? Was it a hot day? That kind of stuff.

Sunny day. Around 70 F.
Engine was stock. No modifications. Crankshaft was machined and new bearings installed.
Oil level was at max mark before and after the failure. Oil was less than a year old and I planned to change it after that event.
Oil pressure was same as always.
Track has only 2 two right corners, others are left corners.

I noticed that something was wrong after "Uued kurvid" (New corners in english). Engine lost power. Then I started to look gaugages to see if something is wrong. I did not get off the gas right away. Oil pressure was 3 bar and temperature was just at or little above 100 degrees.

When I let off the gas and pulled to pit lane I started to hear knocking and the warnig light and oil pressure light came on. Then I turned off the engine and thoght, same s*it different year

And yes, I run the engine as high as it goes.
I did not have Lindsay baffle then. I plan to install it now.

Please look at those pictures. These are the pictures of my old oil pump.
It has scraches and grooves. They are so deep that I can catch my fingernail to those grooves. My engine spun #2 and there were pieces of metal in the oil so oil pump might have been damaged because of that. New one is really expensive so I would use used one if possible.

Maybe someone has a picture of good used oil pump. Is there scraches and grooves?

Pictures are ~ 800 kB

Does someone know where I could get 0,25 oversize main bearings. I have seen rod bearing but main bearings are hard to find. I saw them at vertex online shop but they canceled my order because they did not have them in stock.

The +25 are only available as a OE Porsche part; Glyco doesn't make them anymore. Paragon sells them for $344 but are currently out of stock. They are a 928 part number. 928-101-901-52-M100. EBS Racing is checking their stock also but he thinks they might now be sold in individual bearing shells rather than sets. He's going to get back to me and I'll let you know.
