Thanks Eugene, really appreciate it - now I know I have to go buy a bunch of brake fluid

When unscrewing the bias valve from the master, will the fluid just pour out or is there (as suggested earlier in the thread for ABS cars) a blocking a mechanism that closes as it's screwed out?

Just want to know so as to prepare to shove my finger in the hole while fumbling for the new valve if necessary ...

My car has ABS, and I have not replaced a bias valve on a Non ABS car. However, i have taken a close look at it.

I would place some heavy rags under the master
and may be place a container to catch any fluid that might flow out when you remove the bias valve
( I have not removed one from a master) Also, there will be some brake fluid when you unscrew the brake line from the bias valve. Placing some rags underneath should take care of any drops
while you replace the bias valve.

On a ABS car the Bias valve screws onto the top of the ABS unit vertically and only a small amount of brake fluid will come out of the ABS unit. Just use a clean cloth /paper towel to wipe.

24 hours after the installation check the area where the Bias valve screws into the master/ABS unit for any brake fluid.( in case of car w/ABS leave off the inner fender lining until you do this check) If there is any fluid,
the bias valve needs to be tightened a tiny bit.
Make sure to wipe that area with paper towel after you do the replacement so that the area is " Dry " and you can then see if there is any fluid leakage 24 hours later. Ask me how I know this.

I just purchased the valve from paragon products, my proportioning valve is leaking so I had to change it. Have any of you noticed a significant improvement when replace the old valve with a fresh one? I've felt my brakes have never been as good as they should be (86 951) and suspect my proportioning valve is the culprit.
