Question Plug Wires

I'm going to change my plug wires as I dig the car apart for building the master battery cable upgrade example.

Did Magnecor ever resolve their tearing silicone plug boots? Don't tell me to reuse my old Beru boots, as they are about shot at 14 years old.

Those that have looked at the market recently, give me some ideas on best approach.

Thanks.

I can only speak for the 16 valve motors,I have had a set of Magnecores on my 944S for about 2 years now with no problems, they fit well, perform great and were reasonably priced compared to others. <img src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" border="0" alt="[cheers]" />

I looked at the Magnecor wires at Hershey. Nice wires but the boots are definitely very soft/pliable for the full length.

Considering the plug location relative to the intake manifold on the Turbo, I decided to get a set of Jacobs and re-use the rubber boots from the original wires.

However, the guy selling the Magnecors mentioned a tool that facilitates installation and removal of plug wires, and that's how he recommended dealing with the soft boots.

Hope that helps.

Thumbs down

IMHO Magnecor wires suck. In my personal experience ... the boots tear. Please realize that I had them on my race car and remove/install frequently. I have been using the 8mm wires from Paragon with "NEW" beru (stock) boots and have had no problems.

I bought the Magnacore wires a couple of months ago. The boot is soft and they are a hard to get on. I used plyers with a rag over the boot to push them on in the end with no problems. I hope with time they fit a little easier. Other than the tight fit they seem like a good wire.

rjp951 do you know who you talked to or have any lead on where to get that tool?

I sent an email to Magnecore that I will attatch.

&gt; I am writing to say that there is no way to put your wires onto the
&gt; above mentioned car withou useing plyers or some other tool to get in
&gt; there to push them down. I think this is a manufacturing flaw on your
&gt; part considering the OEM wires hace a 90 degree end on them that
&gt; is sturdy so you can push down on it to get it to seat properly. When I
&gt; try pushing your wires on the plug the soft rubber you use will not seat
&gt; down int the head to go all the way onto the spark plugs because the
&gt; rubber binds and won't go into place. I have checked some web boards to
&gt; find this is a comon problem on my modle car with your wires and thought
&gt; I should pass the information on to you.

I agree that the wires on our set are difficult to fit - we do not use
the original type part for the simple reason that it will fail over time.

I don't remember who the vendor was, but I think he was referring to something like this....

It appears that this tool would pull the boot down from the bottom, rather than pushing it from the top. Since the Magnecor boot doesn't have an outer sealing lip (whatever it's called) that would seem to be a good solution. This particular tool is made by Taylor products.

Here's a link to the site where I found it, but I'm not endorsing this particular vendor.

I put a set of Magnecor wires on my car. I had no issues putting them on. I have no idea why people are having issues getting them on. Just use your hand and push. They click when they're seated. I found it not necessary to use anything to push 'em with.

I got a set of stock ones from Pelican Parts. I am happy with the stock wires.
