Post Stonegard Stickers off -how do you remove the sticky film?

Hey guys, just removed my stonegard stickers, and I am left with sticky residue. I was wondering what kind of chemical compound I can use to get rid of this stuff. Is nail polish remover to harsh for the paint? How about rubbing alchol? OR should I just use soap and a cloth? Are there any compounds you recomend that are made exculively for this purpose? Thanx

A terry cloth tower and some laquer thinner works fine. Do not leave it on long, and don't rub too hard.

Other option is weather stripping adhesive remover, but it can take off the paint.

Safest way is the thinner, just takes a while.

Lighter fluid - and no, I don't mean to burn it! Stuff works great on glue. I use it all the time and I've yet to hurt a finish. I prefer the stuff in the yellow and blue plastic bottle.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I ended up using the Goo Gone as I had used it before on a window with good results, plus, I had some lying around. The stuff was perfect, I let it soak a few minutes, then scraped (sounds harsher than it is) the goo off with a soft plastic blade. Result? Perfect brand new factory finish without a scratch. Oh yeah, I figure this stuff wont hurt the paint if you leave it on less than an hour. It is meant for glue (as opposed to being a universal solvent) and doesnt even eat through your hands (had some minor nicks and cuts which were not irritated, washed liberally afterward to keep it safe though).

After the fact, but the best thing that I have found to remove residue, or double sided foam tape, or pinstriping material, is a rubber wheel attachment. They are available at most body supply shops or from the eastwood catalog. It is a vinyl or rubber wheel, on a collet that you put in a drill. Turn it on, and the wheel spins, working just like an eraser to take the stuff off. You have to be careful, and don't push to hard, but the stuff comes right off, and leaves a perfect finish. I think I paid about $12-15 for one at a auto body supply shop.

Good Luck!
