Question Anyone that ground the inner lip of rear quarter

I am bringing my car to a loca body shop tomorrow to direct his man (the man with the grinder) to grind the lip of the left rear wheel well so it doesnt rub against my too fat tire.

Looking at the quarter pane like a clock, what numbers were rubbing against the tire?

I think its about 10-11 and 1-2. Am I off?

TIA

That sounds about right. It depends upon your tire size. If your tire is currently rubbing against the fender lips, you can see where the paint has been rubbed off to locate the grinding location.

With a 255mm tire, you really only need it at 9:30-10:30 ahead of the tire:

With a 275mm tire, you need more clearance from 8:00-11:00 and 1:00-3:00.

Tom, I took the grinder to the 1-3 o'clock area. I only had to take off 1/16" to 1/8" and it took a few attempts to get it right. Just look for the scuff marks on the lip that the tire left. When I was done grinding I took some cold galvanized paint and a fine brush to cover the raw edge on the lip. I have also read that old shocks will cause a rub. I have old shocks and I was rubbing on hard cornering and speed bumps. Should have put in new shocks before I broke out the grinder.

I tried rolling the lip, then put the Koni Yellows in. I have 255's on the back.

GOt rid of about 95%.

I think I will listen to everyone if i dont see any ruubber, and try a little around the whole area. It's too much of a PIA to keep taking the tire on and off.

Thanks guys.

I had mine grinded as well. It was rubbing from 9-11 o'clock. To help locate, place some masking tape on the edge and go for a spirited drive. Look for the black marks when you return. By the way, with the stiffer suspension, rubbing would not have been an issue. It was with my old konis and stock torsion bars. Good luck.

I am running 295's on 18'x11' Gemballas. I also ground much of the lip off before I realized that my shocks were the culprit.

The left side is shifted outboard because the torsion tube is attached the chassis via an eccentric hole on the drivers side.

see picture:

At least that's my guess. Apparently "they all do that". Its really noticeable with 335s.

i was just getting ready to destroy mine with my 13/14 mm 997 rear spacers by intalling the studs and (seeing if the spacers weren't too big).... but i didn't have a set of open lug nuts just in case the tire started rubbing the zinc oxide off the wheel well lip. what i need is probably 8 mm spacers but no larger.

anybody want to by my 13/14 mm H & R oem Porsche spacers ?

first $ 50 takes them. (studs not included).

It goes in cycles, seems to be the flavor of the month this month, dragging them from the depths...

Funny, with a bunch of rolling, and some clearancing of the inside my 295s finally quit rubbing...
