Default Is this wire normal?

Upon replacing my alternator today, i came upon this bundle of wires. It looks taped, is this a factory "tapejob", or is it some sloppy wiring by the PO? I'm wondering so i know if i should tear it apart and do it right

.....Great.... a hackjob..... I guess it goes well with the unattached ground wire from the power steering rack to the crossmember... I guess i'll tear it apart and do it right. Anyone have their car up on jackstands right now where they could take a picture of the original junction there without too much difficulty?
Thanks

I have a car (87) up and can look, but I'l guess someone tried to jumper in 12 v to the AC compressor. I think I would open that up, get the wire colors and try to figure out whats what using the schematics provided in the workshop manual - which, by the way, are crap. Or maybe it will just be obvious. bruce

I've come across many a frustrating hack job in my car ... one of these days I'll discover some plastique the PO wired to a tamper-proof trigger and just blow myself to kingdom come.
