I was looking into a remote starter for one of my friends who has a 2003 maxima and the dealer said that if we have a third party system installed, then we need to get a key cut in order to make it work. Does anyone know what this means or why a second key is needed.
I am somewhat familiar with remote starters as i just recently installed one on my 94 Altima, but i didnt need another key for anything. Is this just a different type of starter or does it have something to do with the newer cars?

He's probably referring the the theft deterrent system. The key will have a chip in it. Without the proper coding (usually vehicle specific these days) the car won't start-starter bypass or the like depending on the programming.
