Post Looking For Advice... Insurance Renewal Time. Time To Switching Companies????

I'm looking to switch car insurance providers. I'm currently using a large national chain (Progressive), which I have been more than please with over the past 4 years.

Here's the problem. As my work/personal/school schedule gets increasingly more busy, the Porsche sits more and more. Since I bought the '89 in July, I've put so few miles on it that I've barely put in a couple tanks of gas. Here's the deal, I don't see my schedule being eased up in the near future (translation) the car will sit more and more. I even had thoughts of selling it, oh my God did I say that (shhhhh).

I've seen Pano ads for insurance companies that cater (sp?) to guys like me with cars that get less the 5K a year in mileage on them. Does anybody have any experience going through one of these carriers? I'm going to be making a decision before the 1st of the year, so I'm in the "gathering information stage".

I just can't see paying as much as I do for insurance on a car that I haven't driven in nearly 2 months!!!

Any advice/recommendations/etc. would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

I use Leland-West for my p-car. You need to be a PCA member, which I see in your sig you are, have another vehicle for everyday use, a garage, and then pick a milage use (up to 5k a year).I pay $357/yr. on a 90 S2 Cab with an agreed value of $15k. If you go to the Porsche Parade they usually have a nice dinner banquet for policy holders one night so you get more for your dollars. Be aware that Leland-West is a broker, my underwriter is American Modern Home out of Cincinnati, Ohio. I can't speak to claiims pay-offs since I haven't had to use my insurance yet. On top of it all they are pretty nice people.

Keep in mind that most of these collector car carriers require the driver be 25 or older. They are cheaper thou. Good luck!

Im glad you were pleased with Progressive, because they were the most worthless bunch of imbeciles I ever came in contact with (only over the phone of course because they dont exist in person). I thought they were great..until someone totaled my car -- another Progressive driver. Youd think such a claim would have been as easy as pie. Biggest clowns I ever dealt with. They shold have paid ME for the work to get my claim settled. A week after the accident I dropped them like a bad habit and went with State Farm for the Scoob/Porsche. I think upon renewal I will take the Porsche and see what Leland West can do for me, but at least I can drive five minutes to the State Farm guy and give him hell face to face if I think theres a problem.

Sorry. Had to vent. Progressive Insurance is the most hated company in my portfolio. Any company that needs 2.5 months to give me my payoff is a bunch of imbeciles. God forbid if I NEEDED that $5400. Because as we all know, thats just a days pay for guys like you and me and we just run out and put a deposit on the new M3 when someone waxes our car and we dont have the payoff yet.

Uggh. My mom was injured and laid up for a month with bruised ribs (shes damn near 60yrs old and cant take a crash like you and I). That Progressive jerkoff wanted to give her $700 for her pain and suffering. We just laughed at her and told her to get out of the house before we lose our temper.

OK. Im done. For now.

Corey,I had same situation,in NJ, Ins, is second only to Calif.I was paying $800 per year wf good coverage high deductable ect....Then I found a co in Fla, American collectors Ins,I was able to set my own value for my 85.5 944 at 7K,good med coverage, zero deductable on comp and collision...This policy costs me $154.00 per year.... Catch is three criteria,Car must be stored in garage, all drivers in household must have their own cars and policies, and you get 2500 miles per year.I was told by them on the phone ,if miles was a problem after you are with them for 6 months you can request another 2500 for 20% of policy...When you go on line you can put in different values for your car and it will give you instant quotes. The # is 1-800-360-2277or info@americancollectors.net...I have not made any claims with them but have heard good things from other friends with collector cars of all types. They are counting on us to keep our cars garaged most of the time, and if you are like most of us they don't get a lot of use. Hope I was of help.Red

Cool

FWIW, I use State Farm, they are about 50% cheaper than Allstate.. (who didn't seem to want to insure ANYTHING sporty without big $$$) I may look into the PCA stuff, it sounds like I meet their criteria.

I hear GEICO buys radar guns for local law enforcement, I'd never spend a cent with them.
