....oh, and I forgot.....

They could have just put it right out in the open and called it the "Dodge Rice Rocket"!!!!.....and offered it with Rice accessories as part of the packages, just like Barbi has all her accessories.

Well it is still a neon, it is still ugly, but man that thing is quick, and that is at low boost settings.

My only gripe w/ the car (well actually not my only one, but my biggest gripe) is that it is a FWD platform, and I hate torque steer. Once people start boosting these things you'll see a lot of them that just didn't make it around corners because boost hit and it went strait. Now if they use that motor in a light wieght rear drive platform hell i'd be willing to buy a dodge.

And it looks like that might not be that far off the dodge razor is going to be a 2500lbs 240hp car w/ six speed tranny. That is impressive factory performance.

I know there is an overwhelming sentiment on this board to hate dodge, I know I don't like any of the new cutsie cars (i will throw the neon in that group) but if a hp war is started and the platforms improve then I'm all about it. Right now we have a couple different hp wars brewing

Small AWD: WRX STi, and the EVO
Mid Size: M3, S4 (RS4), CTS w/V8, IS400
Full Size: M5, RS6, AMG E55
Luxo: S600, M7 (yes an M7 is coming), RS8 (yep its in the works too)
Roadsters: Z4 just upped the ante and i'm sure the other big dogs will follow, don't mock the car till you drive it, it is incredible.

So if this dodge sets off another HP battle in the small car market then I don't think it will be a bad thing. I know BMW, and Audi are both thinking of bringing a smaller car to the states, maybe and M2, or the S3 will come over, sure more expensive, but with the dodge razor, the pontiac solstic the americans are joining the game w/ cheap rwd platforms....

Don't knock are car based on who makes it, if it is fun to drive and is quick I'd consider it.

The computer does not let the owner increase boost. It shuts down if you're making more power than stock. And they had HUGE engine management issues with those cars.

What's next, guys..I can see it now..a post..."How can I make my 944/951 as fast as a Neon?" There are times you can cut the snobbishness in this room with a meataxe. The question should be, if Dodge can do it for 20k, why can't Porsche? Answer? Because Porsche LOVES to keep the snobbish attitude of Porsche owners. The old porcupine/Porsche comment is true even with us humble 944 owners....

Come on...more than one comment has been made here about the 944 "It is so well engineered you can't get much more out of it." Really? How come other manufacturers can get at least one hp per cu in and the 944 could not? Could it be its tendency to grenade in interesting (and extremely expensive) ways?

The new Neon could be a real money maker for Dodge. If it is OK for Porsche to bring out a new and different model to pique interest( or in the case of Porsche to save their fiscal a$$), why not other manufacturers? Condolences to the first of us who get our butts handed to us by a Neon...

This isn't the first time. These were called the P-bodies I believe. The replacment for the Omni. Remember those? The car who's halflife was 20k miles.

These Shadows could be had with 180hp v6 engines or with 4cyl turbos. Don't let the numbers fool you though these cars are a piece of <img src="graemlins/icon501.gif" border="0" alt="[icon501]" />

Gee, I dunno....My wife had a 1987 Plymouth version of the Shadow (Sundance). She sold it before we moved across country for $500 with 137,000 miles on it. In all that time it required (1) water pump and radiator, timing belt, a couple of sensors and relays and a replacement radio. Of course, the normal exhaust system replacement (the rust belt, remember?) and brakes, tyres, shocks and tune ups. All in all, far more reliable and dependable than either my 912, 924 or 944 have been over the years even with far less mileage. Who maintained the car(s)? Me. In addition, my winter ride back there was a 1986 Ford wagon with 150+k on the clock. The heads had never been off that puppy, and she was simply a "turn the key and drive" machine given a minimum of attention like I think I washed it once a year whether it needed it or not. The folks who bought my house bugged me for that car and I did wind up selling it for $800!!

Point is, ANY car will literally last forever if it is lavished with attention like our 944s are, or any Porsche for that matter. Even a Plymouth Sundance.....

Cheers!!
