Question History Question

On my 86 na I have a diamond shape indentation on both rockers indicating the jack point. Was this mark on all year 944's? Seems like most 944 I've seen don't have the mark. Also on my drivers side rear quarter glass I have a sticker that is factory and it states something about the car conforming to CA emmissions. Was that standard on all 944's?

My '87 had the mark too, don't remember the CA emmisions though.

I would think all 944's should have this mark,if not,it could indicate that the car was in an accident, and was covered with bondo.maybe!

I thought it marked the center jack point. The weird thing is, my car only has it on one side!

It does indeed mark the center jacking point, and *should* be on all 944's on both sides. For those of you who haven't tried jacking your car there, you shoudl try it... one of the best things Porsche did for us, as far as I am concerned.

When I was first washing it and saw that mark, I thought it had been damaged there. Then I saw that there were identical marks on both sides and realized it was just an indicator for the jack point.

The CA emissions sticker means that it conformed to the CA emissions standards for your model year. (It was probebly sold new in CA.) They made some minor changes to the veh regarding its emissions.

Hey,

It is there to mark the center jacking point, but just because it is there doesn't stop stupid mechanics (like, oh I don't know ... at Discount Tire) from disregarding it and crushing the sill when trying to lift the car.

With the emissions sticker on my car I was trying to determine if my 944 was destined for CA or all 944's had this. CA was first on the emissions bandwagon and curious if Porsche made complying standard in 86 or just for those headed to CA.

It is the best place to jack one side of the car at a time. Great for brake pad changes and winter tire change-overs. Leave doors and hatch shut (944's are only so rigid) and don't use the supplied jack at the track on grass (don't ask).

I use a standard floor jack in the garage with a little rubber pad to lift that spot.
