What is the porpose of the 'dog ears' on the torque tube?
Trying to work out what the porpose of the welded in 'dog ears' on the torque tube, what do they actually do? Some cars have the rear only, some have front and rear (ie: either side of the t-bar housing).
TIA, Mike

If you look at the mounting system for the drive line, I think the tabs butt up against the torsion tube to keep the trans and torque tube from moving to forward under braking and stressing the motor mounts.
Of course I could be completely wrong.

I see, a crash safety thing. So, the ones at the rear would be the only ones in play during a rear end collision. I have noticed that some cars do not have the forward ones, so I take it that they did nothing.
